“We started Ava in Music Together at 22 months old. After just one semester of classes, we have noticed a remarkable difference in her musical abilities. For example, her sense of rhythm is amazing. She went from a toddler randomly beating a toy drum with a stick, to a toddler beating a drum with intention and focus; it is as if she can feel the beat in her body. This is something that Stacy has always stressed during class time- that even if your child isn't fully "engaged" with the circle, she is still feeling the rhythm of the music because it is just so powerful in the room.
Another ability that my daughter has learned is singing-- and I mean SINGING! It brought tears to my eyes when, on her 2nd birthday this year, she sang "happy birthday" in it's entirety to herself-- slowly, articulately, and (almost 100%) in key! Truly, this was the moment that I said to myself- "Wow, this music class is working!" The holidays came and, at barely 2 years old, she was able to sing Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells, and Rudolph, all the way through. This was most likely attributed to the late nights in her crib when she'd sit contentedly, alone, rehearsing. My husband and I would stare at each other, jaws dropped, as this tiny, angelic voice serenaded us with the greatest hits of the holidays over our baby monitor!
Another thing this class has done for us, is to reaffirm how absorbent our little ones really are. After the first 1-2 weeks of class, most of the children-- (all under the age of four!)- display a comfortable familiarity with the songs. They are singing them , enjoying them, and even engaging in the dictated hand/body/ movements with them...all while us moms & dads stumble over the words.
All in all, we are thrilled with this class. It is one hour a week to see familiar faces & friends who share a love for music with us. The benefits of enrolling your child in Music Together are obvious within the first few classes, especially since the results are so tangible-- or perhaps audible is a much more appropriate word. And although the class carries no guarantee that your child will be the next Mozart...or American Idol, it will certainly guarantee a safe, comfortable, fun environment to nurture the little musician that lives inside of all our children!”
